  • The way soil feels in our hands when we touch it is called soil texture.


There are three types of soil.

✓ Clay soil.

✓ Loam soil.

✓ Sand soil.


Clay soil.

It is also called fine soil.

Clay soil feels smooth when touched


Characteristics of Clay soil.

  1. It has small particles.

  2. Feels smooth.

  3. It is sticky when wet.

  4. Makes long ribbon.

  5. Does not dry quickly.

  6. Cracks when it is dry.


Sand Soil

Sand soil is also called rough soil.

It feels tough when touched.


Characteristics of sand soil.

  1. Feels coarse or rough.

  2. It has big particles.

  3. It does not stick when wet like clay soil.

  4. It has loose particles.

  5. It dries up quickly.


Loam Soil

It is also called medium soil.

Characteristics of Loam Soil

  1. Has medium sized particles.

  2. Has medium texture.

  3. It feels both rough and smooth when toughed.

  4. Makes short ribbons that break easily.

  5. It has a lot of dead plants and animals.

  6. It is fertile
